Is the current trend of teams dropping their Championship grade fair? I am a hurler for ????, and I attend the vast majority of training sessions year in and year out. What is my goal, and the goal of my Club? To win the Junior Championship. To say that in recent years we are getting really frustrated with the number of teams dropping down to Junior just to get a medal. A couple of years ago ???? dropped down, it was a no-brainer that they were going to win the Junior, now ???? have dropped down. This team won the Intermediate a couple of years ago,????. What is going on now that they want to drop down and play Junior. Is it fair to Club's like my own?

No, it probably is not fair, but it is within rule. Not one voice of objection was offered when entries to various championships were posted on Monday night. Now we have concealed your club's and the others identities because we simply don't know why some clubs want or need to do this. It would be wrong for you or anyone else to make judgements on why another club might make such decisions because you simply don't know what is going on within another club. However, your club representative did not voice any objection and that is perhaps something you can look into!

Why didn't you allow my post ???

Becuase it's complete and utter codswallop. You are behaving like a sponge - just absorbing all the rubbish that comes near you. Grow up!

Here's the thing Mod, the non-county players far outweigh the county players and we demand that we get the majority of our games played before the days get short again. Its not on that the majority have to suffer because of a few (paid) players who are going to flop anyway!

County players should be allowed to play with their clubs, it will get them match fit and at the end of the day, they belong to the club and not to the board.

???

Well we predicted this would be the response we might get from narrow-minded, self-centred, introverted, unambitious losers. Guess what? County players are available to clubs for every match. Who ever said they "belong to the board"? Where do you get your ideas from? If you want your matches played before "the days get short", go right ahead and tell your club that. You will get absolutely nowhere there, of course. Try broadening your horizions and find even a bit of ambition!

RE fixtures

As the Moderater said we are not the only County to play games in the autum months. Down teams also play league games into november as they play in our league. Wexford play alot of their games in winter months. It is not always easy to fix games with over 50 clubs in antrim with various teams in both hurling and football. You have to remember there are county games on as well. The people who agree to these fixtures are the clubs.

I would be happy to play hurling the whole year round if I cound and had the time

I understand the frustration of playing more games in Oct/Nov than Summer but I'm not sure it's the CCC's fault. Dual clubs must be accomodated first of all and can't be asked to play both codes in one day (i.e) penalised for full committment to our games. Also the real problem is that the county players are not playing for clubs in the crucial stage of Ulster championship/All-Ireland so this minimises the number of club fixtures can be played at this time. Thirdly - we cant do anything about their only being 4/5 weekends each month! It is indeed frustrating for the majority of players to sit idle in the summer months while a minority (county) play. Perhaps freeing county players to play for their clubs might help but I dont think this is likely and certianly not the remit of the fixture makers. Anyone have any solutions ?!

You will be inundated with replies that County players should play away with their clubs. That will come from those who don't give a continental dam about the county teams and what is established and accepted practice in other counties. You have summarised the problems perfectly here. We would ask this question though? Is it totally necessary for clubs to have their county players available for EVERY SINGLE league game? That doesn't happen in most other counties and if we could get over this madness of essentially suspending club activity while the county team is active, then the vast majority of club players would still get to play at a stage in the season that is not November.

After the all the complaining last year the fixtures are once again scheduled to go onto November?? Is this driving anyone else up the walls? We are the only county in Ireland who fix this. Looking forward to 4 games in October and one in May..

Guess what - who do you think endorses these fixtures? That's right - the clubs. Did you try comlaining within your own club? No, probably not because you would find out exactly why these fixtures are scheduled the way they are. Now, you could try asking your club if they will make any effort to get some of those later fixtures played at an earlier date. All they need to do is get agreement with the other club. Will that happen? Probably not, because there are too many people like you just want to sit back and complain, blame everyone else and do nothing about it. Finally, as for being the only county in Ireland who does this - complete and utter rubbish. Attitudes and opinions such as yours are what drives people "up the walls"!

Can i commend the county on two issues.

Firstly the new senior hurling championship looks a lot more attractive and will attract a lot more new hurling fans from areas not maybe so strong in hurling at the minute. This will bring more kids to clubs to play hurling and hopefully it will make the championship more exciting, looking forward to rauri og vs south antrim already.

Secondly bringing the legends that are kilkenny to belfast lads lets give them all they want and repeat last year, big year this year with Leinster and the new div 2 lets get the ball moving on sunday.

go raibh maith agat to our county board for making hurling a lot more available and attractive within the county and ulster.

Remember'amalgamated' teams participating in the senior hurling championship 20 or maybe 25 years ago - well before the computer age arrived in North Antrim. They were able then to get a team together- surely it will be easier now considering the pool of talented people that we have within our ranks!
God Bless Antrim!

dont like the way everyone is building this match up on sunday to 'see a team of legends'etc..people should be going to support antrim and stop showing kk so much respect!fair play to them for winning 3 in a row but get tore into them on sunday and i for one am going to support antrim!not to see a legends!!

We couldn't agree more. It is important to point out though, that it shouldn't take this Kilkenny team coming up for someone to say this. Unfortunately it has.

Agree - we should get out in force and support the county.

People are always going to complain about the cost into matches...the real fans will go to the game and take the opportunity to see Kilkenny.

PS The McKenna cup was £8 (10€).

Sorry, we got the euro and pound symbols mixed up. Is it much different now anyway? But well said.

How are they a history making team? You really lack Knowledge administrator, Plenty of teams have already achieved Three in a row.

Are you for real????? Bet you couldn't name them without going to look them up! It's 30 years since this was last done! Fact!

Admission £10 to a game in January - that's ridiculous!

Even the ulster council wouldn't do that!

(I understand it's not your fault admin, before the sanctimonious reply, however I just want to voice that is ridiculous)

McKenna Cup was the same. Obviously you go to a lot of matches! Do you really have any idea what an chance this is to see this history-making team? It really is insufferable the amount of negative whining that this county has to put up with!

I know the Leinster Council are in charge of setting admission prices for the Walsh Cup, but £10 into a glorified friendly tournament? The GAA as usual cannot help them selves when it comes to chasing a pound, an association that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

3 pints, not even 2 packets of fags, not even one hurl, just about one sliothar! A chance to see a team of legends - cheap at half the price we think!

Can't wait to see the cats in action on Sunday. They are truly an amazing team. I hope Antrim get ripped into them and hurl the way that Antrim teams can. If this is the case then the match won't be as one sided as the media would have us believe. Remember it is not that long ago that Antrim beat them in their own back yard. Sunday is a massive occasion for ulster hurling. By conceding home advantage, Kilkenny have shown that they care about hurling in Ulster. All Ulster GAA fans should get up to Casement on Sunday and watch the greatest team in any sport on this island perform.

Well said.

Appreciate the posting of championship draw. Are there any dates released yet for when matches will take place?

Provisional lists are with clubs and up for discussion on Monday night. They will be posted after this.
