Moderator, you may or may not be able to help with this but it's a general request to those who may. As an exile my ability to find out information in relation to my county is limited so I am wondering if anyone out there is able to update me on the ability of divisional teams to represent the county/Ulster in Ulster and possibly All Ireland club competitions. Also if they are forebid from competing at the said levels what would the county's/ provincial council position be on providing representitive teams.
I understand this happens at levels in other countys (Kerry comes to mind, although they have both club and county championships I think) therfore is this possibly a directive from Croke Park.

Here's hoping for an answer.

We don't know what the Provincial council's views are on this. The matter has not been discussed within the County as it does depend on the Provincial Council's opinion on what would happen if a divisional board team did win the championship.

With the new league structure at u16 level, bring teams from across the county together! I was wondering when it will be decided what team is in what division, or how many divisions there will be overall!

There is a meeting about this tomorrow night, but much of this depends on clubs being honest about what standard they are at.

I don't quite grasp what Big Hurling Man means by 'the risk of relegation and what it means is too big'?
Baffled!

Nor do we. Now that league structures seem to be more settled, all divisions do seem to be very competitive and relegation should not be seen to be the disaster it might once have been. Not just that, but some clubs have been obviously way out of their depth and relegation and promotion simply exposes that. Numerous examples of this exist if we compare league postions now to a few years ago. That's the reality - most clubs will at some stage struggle to maintain their competitiveness at a certain standard and it is no bad thing to step down when this happens. But some people want to cling onto historical successes and prefer to remain looking backwards.

Some of the small rural clubs in North Antrim are really seeing the impact of planning policies that has seen very few houses being permitted to be built in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).Their numbers of players at senior level are very limited and when they lose three or four players because of temporary'migration' to Australia etc or to seek work across the water they have to take realistic decisions about where they are capable of competing. Add to this the normal absences through injury, work/ family commitments then downgrading is the only viable option. But do we really care about the well -being of our communities or is our focus shifted primarily on games?
And whilst this may refer to rural circumstances the issues, problems facing youth in urban areas and particularly Belfast should also really concern us collectively as an organisation.

Now there is someone thinking "outside the box"!

fair play to the ccc and the county committee in driving forwrd these radical plans for senior championship hurling. Hopefully teams will get behind it and hopefully the timing of the senior championship will accommodate dual clubs in north and south antrim.

After reading the negative comments on this message board last year regarding the fixtures running into the middle of November, I was hoping that this would have been one of the main items addressed for the new 2009 season. I am not writing to criticise or point the finger of blame at the CCC, as I understand it is impossible to satisfy the needs of all clubs within the county. I am simply writing to put forward a proposal, which I have also forwarded to my club committee this week after seeing the league fixtures for the coming season.
In my opinion at present, there are not enough days in the same week to play a round of both senior football and hurling fixtures, mainly due to the fact that underage football is played during most week nights.
At present in South West Antrim U12 & U14 games are played on a Friday night and in South Antrim U12 football is played on a Friday night with U14 football played on a Tuesday night. As a proposal I would ask if there is any reason that U12 & U14 football in both South and South West Antrim could be moved to a Sunday Morning say 11.00 or 12.00hrs (U12 followed by U14). This would leave a Friday night free to play a full round of fixtures in one code, there would also be the availability of Sunday afternoon to play another code after the underage games are played (which would also offer the opportunity for bigger crowds and a family day). If either of the days presented a problem to certain dual clubs or clubs with county players then they would have the option of refixing the game on a Wednesday night. The hurling and football could run on alternative Fridays and Sundays if necessary so that both codes are treated equally.
I should also point out that the more successful counties such as Armagh, Down and Tyrone all play senior football on a Friday night and it seems to work well for them so maybe we in Antrim need to look at their league fixture structures.
The CCC could submit a proposed fixtures list at the start of the year and each club would have a period of time to analyse their team fixtures schedule and submit their comments back to the CCC. This would allow the CCC to revise the fixtures programme before the season begins and any further rescheduled fixtures (due to extended runs in various championships) would have to be at the agreement of the CCC and both clubs.
This would put more responsibility on the clubs to ensure that the fixtures are completed within a reasonable time frame. It would also encourage our fellow Gaels to stay involved in our games as they know that they will be playing on a regular basis, which can only benefit our county as a whole.
Although I have submitted this to my own club, I would like to hear the feedback from fellow Gaels on this proposal as I appreciate and understand that it is only one voice and one opinion.
Let the debate begin!!

It's a bit late to be putting any alternative suggestions as radical as these to your club or CCC now. However, contrary to what you seem to be indicating, the proposed fixtures have been circulated to clubs for their input for a couple of weeks now. Their feedback has been requested - not much has come back though. As for "putting more responsibility on clubs" to complete fixtures - if dates are not set there is nothing more certain than the reality that clubs will not make any effort to ensure fixtures are completed. The fact that clubs with agreement can rearrange fixtures does go some way to facilitating this, but very few actually avail of this opportunity. Juvenile fixtures at Under 12 & 14 are the responsibility of divisional boards and there is no doubt that the lack of uniformity on when games are played is ludicrous. However, attempts were made a few years ago to try to sort this. Guess what? They couldn't agree!

MOD,
Can you not understand the depth of feeling & frustrations of genuine club players who face the prospect of long lay-offs during the year? Your comments contridict your own arguments re fixtures "Now, you could try asking your club if they will make any effort to get some of those later fixtures played at an earlier date. All they need to do is get agreement with the other club" Why can't they be fixed earlier by those responsible for doing so? Clubs then formally enter such leagues (as they did last year!) abiding by stated regulations.
???
Those charged with organising leagues need to start showing some leadership instead of continually blaming yer man ????

You clearly have not got the first clue about making fixtures. Do you really think it is as simple as that? The CCC have shown remarkable leadership and the organisation of fixtures in this county has improved from year to year. In fact, it is second to none when compared to other counties - a process the provincial council has already audited. You completely ignore the fact that the reason there are long gaps is entirely at the behest of clubs. THAT'S THE WAY THEY WANT IT! And that's why you should bring these matters up at your club. If you think it is possible for CCC to look at each and every individual club and create fixtures suitable to their specific needs then you are obviously not on this planet. Your comments demonstrate no understanding of the complexities of this process whatsoever.

Joe Edwards spoke at the County Convention saying that the 2009 fixtures will be looked at as to finishing of leagues at an earlier date and the 'gaps' between matches from May to September. The Master Fixtures show no difference from last year!!!!!

Do you want to check that again? There are differences. Perhaps your frustration is affecting your vision!

Here we go again !!!! Does anyone else not get fed up with all this nonsense regarding clubs not being able to adhere to the fixture shedule due to county players not being available. In my opinion it's really simple. If your club has the players you enter 2 or 3 teams. You don't have the players (without your county players) you enter one team. Don't bite off more than you chew !! As for he or she that is of the opinion that players belong to clubs not the county board - Get a life. Where will you be on All Ireland Day (albeit a few years down the line) when OUR COUNTY lines out at Croke Park? I guessed it standing at the bar cheering on the oposition.

To be fair moderator it IS totally necessary for clubs to have their county players for every game. The risk of relagation and wht it means is too big. Would our county management not want a full selection for their league games? Why would it be different for clubs? I thought we wanted to make the leagues as competitive as possible ,not dilute them.

So in your view, having long gaps between matches allows for good, competitive leagues???? As for county managers wanting a full selection available for league games - of course they do. This is ridiculous comparision because clubs don't have league games at the same time. County players being available for all club league games doesn't happen in most other counties, but we want do it differently which causes this hiatus in club league games. Do we really think we are better off for it? We need to get over this idea that each club has a best 15 players only. Vary rarely does any club have every player available to them for reasons other than players being involved with county teams - injury, holidays, work etc, etc. In this county we have talked ourselves into this ridiculous idea that we MUST not play any club matches without ALL county players being available, particularly when many non-county players are not available anyway, for the reasons outlined. We need to get over this and get on with club league matches. Believing that the leagues are so competitive that it necessitates county players being available for league matches is self-defeating, it is hindering development of other players and is causing serious disruption to the smooth running of club leagues!
