Admin, in response to your question of why antrim might be claiming the 2 points against wicklow, apparently wicklow fielded a player who should not have been playing as he was sent off in a match previous to antrim match

See below.

Could the moderater of the website please reply, giving the names of the current senior county hurling team 2009, minus the cushendall contingent. That would be great.

Check any of the recent teams posted in match reports.

Will we fight for the two points against wiclow or what?

This issue was discuused at Central Council today. It was recognised that the Wicklow County secretary had made a genuine mistake and advised this player that he was available. As such, no further action is being taken.

Point well made about the young players there.

But Benny Hasson from rasharkin played 4 queens at fresher level i thnk.

Niall McKeever from portglenone is playing for portglenone at sigerson level this year.

Paddy Cunningham is a Lamh Dearg man.

In recent years there have been a number of antrim players on fresher teams playing along side amazing young talents from all over the province. The fyuits of the clubs' efforts are starting to drip through now at university level just now. And as you say, it is a step in the right direction.

Now we need to mentain a strong focus on teaching the basics in primary schools to get more children involved, and to encourage them to enjoy their football.

Big weekend coming up. Both of our senior teams have games which in theory could be tight but are both very winnable.

Lets hope we are celebrating a double come Sunday afternoon.

Course: Mental Toughness in GAA
Date: Monday 16th February 2009 Time: 7.30pm -9.00pm
Venue: Cross & Passion College Assembly Hall Tutor: John Morrison

This lecture looks at the whole principle of Mental toughness in Gaelic games. It focuses on Total Control and allays fears over mental fitness. It makes coaches appreciate how the brain works and how it can be applied to coaching. It helps the coach find out that the phrase “where the mind goes, the body follows” is really true. This course is delivered by John Morrison. John is a master tutor in Gaelic Games and has been coaching teams at the highest level for the past 15 years working with Antrim, Armagh, Donegal, Derry and Mayo (whom he took to the 2006 All Ireland final). He is the current coach of Letrim senior football team.

Great Work- Two St Brigids men Loughrey and O'Hagan are key members of the Queens panel! It would be unfair to say St Galls and Cargin are the only clubs providing top college players. There is a wealth of college talent in a lot of clubs in Antrim. The presence of these players in college set ups can only help us and is great to see

It's great to see more and more of Antrim's young players playing college hurling and football at high levels. I just read there that the ranch were beaten by Galway in the Sigerson. Bad luck, the point i wanted to make though was that out of the 9 points they managed to get, Antrims Kevin Niblock and CJ McGourty got 7 of them between them.

Not sure how many of the back line were Saffrons - is K O'Boyle? I think he might be a Cargin man? But surely the exposure of many of our talents playing at this standard can only help our county team. In Queens, Justin Crozier has been doing really well, Kevin McGourty was a stalwart of Queens over about 6 or 7 years (what degree was he doing??) - not really a good example i suppose of how he improved our county team, but he certainly became a better footballer during this time. Paddy Cunningham also made big moves during his college years.

The only pity i can see is that it only seems to be the St Galls and Cargin men who are doing it at that level. I see Micky Pollock from Gorts can taken off scoreless. So i think the key is that the clubs like Cargin and St Galls continue with their juvenile work, get schools to play Mccrory, get the right people in to evolve good minor and under 21 set ups and get as many of them playing at college level as possible. Standards will rise!

That is an excellent choice of minor hurling managers! All I would think that any young man who wants to feature on an Antrim minor hurling team this year will need to want to hurl and prove that he can hurl! Great to see this sorted.

great news to see the appointment of minor hurling managers. Kevin McNaughton was excellent in his time in charge of Derry and was always one person I would have thought maybe took the county senior role. That saying it is maybe just as/if not more important that our minor managers have previous experience so as to develop the youth teams in our county.

The main reason for my posting is to ask is this Andy McCallin the football allstar and previously renound excellent hurler, or in fact Andrew McCallin his nephew who has been involved in some successful St Johns juvenile teams and most recently our senior hurling squad?

Andy "the nephew".
