Mickey Harte in his Friday column recently wrote about the problems affecting "The GAA family in Cork". He wrote, "If there is a problem with any family member, then we are all adversely affected."
The truth of this statement is a timely reminder to all GAA people and not least here in our own county. We are all affected by the disappointment experienced by Cushendall yesterday. The end was heartbreaking to watch, especially the manner in which it came. However, during the course of the game it was heartwarming to watch an Antrim team play with such skill and commitment. Cushendall will naturally rue the few fatal mistakes that cost them glory but I for one will always remember this game as an outstanding performance that should inspire us all. Thanks Cushendall. You have done your club, your county and the game of hurling a tremendous service.

When is the fixtures out for hurling and football?

Would their be any chance of getting a list of the leagues put on as well as to see whos in what league?

This is currently being processed.

Hard luck to Cushendall yesterday, only an Antrim team could be two points up in injury time and not win. They battled tremendously but a lack of scoring at crucial times was costly.

Heads up Cushendall. You did uor club and county proud. If only we could get men to hurl with the same passion for our county we would very soon be a force to reckon with. Keep the faith.

The Go games is a thought out programme aimed at skills development. Of course there will still be competition etc. Do you ever watch kids in a school yard - doesn't matter what their game is they want to win which in my book equates to competition. The skill level in hurling within Antrim is woefully deficient not only at juvenile level but right up. We have 'did it our way' for 125 years- mighty successful do I hear you agree?
As adults we might not be best placed to judge what is best for juveniles- but I'm sure Go games have been very well researched. Let us inform ourselves - one or two good games as mentioned in previous posts can blind us to the general reality.

if you think about it it the Go Games work weel. it works well i derry and most counties do it. just let kids play football and enjoy it and dont bring up an argument that cant be won. its al about the kids and if you want them to have more games orgainise some then!!

Sorry lads, could you explain this u12 "Go Games" ruling please? Are the u12 hurling and football leagues being scrapped? And if so, why? Any explanation much appreciated!!!

a simple solution to the go games ruling. Continue to play the various league competitons as normal but once a month play th ego games format as a blitz tournamnet similiar to th eog sport/aldergrove go games finals day covers both points of view and would likely be within central council guidelines. Both formats would enable skills develoment to run alongside more competitive ation

Not sure if that's acceptable.

i realise that this is a national ruling i didnt want to sound as if i was blaming our board because i wasnt sorry if thats how it sounded, i was just speaking about how it will effect our county, north antrim have a great under 12 league and championship, and i saw the A and B nipper quinn finals at casement last year class games and atmosphere, this is where kids want to be and playing in championship games, loughgiel and rossa produced one of the best county finals i ever seen at this age group last year as well, is this the last we will see games like this? please god their must be another way.

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

This a nationwide ruling, by the way.
