I don't know whether the County Committee system that represents all clubs is an effective means of generating energy, self belief in the collective fortunes of Antrim GAA. Not sure what contribution our Divisional Boards make to align ourselves with Antrim. There is only one show that we can identify with and that is Antrim. We are Antrim and we exist as Clubs because we have a County structure.
But we need a radical injection of something to bring us together.
Too many of us want to look no further than our own clubs.

In response to Sideline p. Yes its obvious that we are lagging behind every other county in Ulster. Its not rocket science as to why this is. Antrim is the only county in Ulster who did did not have a single school playing MacRory Cup football this year. This is a sad indictment of the state of the game in our county and until this is rectified nothing will change. Micky Harte or Jim McGuiness would not be able to turn Antrim's fortunes round because we do not have the players coming through the system who are accustomed to playing at 'A'-colleges level in the 12-18 age bracket. This would not be tolerated by the County Board in any other county In Ulster and is reflective of the county boards lack of focus in promoting Gaelic football in our schools.

I most certainly agree that it is regretable that Antrim do not have a school within its border competing in the McCrory Cup although we do have players playing for schools outside our county and making a significant contribution. You make a suggestion that the County Board should do something about it. I am in no doubt that the County Board, which is made up of every club within the county and in essence representing every member from those clubs would take whatever measures are needed to raise standards within school football.Perhaps you can make suggestions through your club who inturn can bring it to the rest of the clubs and a proper debate can happen. The most important group who need an input into any strategy are the schools. When devising your plan be sure to include all the stakeholders. I look forward to debating your ideas and I will be the first to give them my backing if they are workable.

Heard some pundits on the radio speculating on what is wrong with Antrim in terms of improving our standing relative to other Counties in Ulster.
Not sure that there were any great insights.
Something obvious around that it won't be changed overnight.
Has there been a concerted effort to get clubs engaged - or our extensive membership engaged in even agreeing that we have a vision ; desire to improve things?
I know you can have a paper strategy or x years plan etc but have we 20; 200 or 2000 members who would generally buy in to the process of making plain and positive change?
We have seen a lot of positive change ( not always acknowledged) in the past twenty years in terms of political agreement etc that we need to start somewhere so that the pundits some day are lauding our good work.
Yes it will take good work
Maybe this type of process is already in hand?

Interesting little spat on antrim twitter where the administrator took exception to a comment a journalist made about Antrim best players being missing. To be fair I'm with the journalist in this.

Anyone watching club or county football in recent years knows that most of the following ( who ARE currently missing for one reason or another) are from a list that most observers agree are our best players. Kevin Niblock, Sean Kelly, James Loughrey, Michael Magill, Kevin O Boyle, Ciaran McGourty, etc etc.

In an ideal world we would have them all on the pitch doing their stuff - and I wouldn't be expecting to see Antrim in the basement division either if they were available.

What part of the journalists statement dosent make sense? To me it's fairly clear that he is bang on the money with his assessment.

I also read the Twitter debate you refer to. This is NOT the Official Antrim Twitter account. This is administered by a private individual who has an affinity to Antrim GAA. The Official Antrim Twitter account is @AontroimGAA and the Antrim PRO account is @AntrimGAAPRO. All other Twitter accounts are individuals own personal accounts that we do not have any control over. It would be great to have every Antrim player available in both codes but we don't and have to get on with it and trust our management and coaches to achieve the full potential from the players they have available and select.

Hi, I understand you cannot give exact dates of fixtures. However I just want to ask if there are any provisional weeks I should except the club hurling championship to be played. I'm trying to book a family holiday and no one seems to know when to expect it to be.

These are provisional dates that have not been finalised by CCC. It is anticipated that CCC will be able to release dates to Club Secretaries in two weeks. Be aware that in two weeks these dates may change but you have asked for provisional dates and this is all I can provide at this point in time.Dates are for Weekend of. Hey come on - you know that stuff that was mentioned by PR for our young players ?
And what happens we have photos of teams posted from 1943; 1970; 1988 - I know as the good song says "they are oul but they are beautiful and the colors they are fine' but that is the stuff of a brave while ago.
And so looking forward to tons of the youth of today so that in 50 years time someone will also look back with nostalgia on the Saffron dream teams.
And those photos are great and fair play to those who take the time and effort to post them

It is the intention to post both the old and the new.
