To try to clear up the confusion regarding promotion and relegation from leagues with teams on same points;

(i)Where TWO Teams ONLY are involved - the
outcome of the meeting of the two Teams
in the previous game in the Competition;

(ii)
Scoring Difference (subtracting the total
Scores Against from total Scores For);
(iii)Highest Total Score For;
(iv) A Play-Off.

Where a double round League is played, the combined scores
of the two games shall be taken into account when applying
clause 5(c)(i) of that Rule. [(i) above]

There you go.

Do we have a means of getting our clubs to sign up to 'respect' for referees?. Not only to sign up but to face down those who shame themselves and their club by their bebaviour towards refs. I agree they would not have the backbone to ref a game.

Was not at the game but unfortunate outcome for both St Teresas and GNM.

It is sods law that the one result that would see St Teresas missing out on promotion and GNM relegated was going to be the outcome.

Best of luck to both teams next year, St Teresas have been progressing nicely for a number of years and should be abck in the hunt for promotion while I make GNM early favourites for Div 3 and an immediate return.

Was at the gort na Mona & st teresas game today, well done both teams on getting a draw which suited both parties. A more competitive and hard hitting game will not be seen all year. Both teams fought to the final whistle.

For Refs Sake

as someone who has helped out and Reffed a few times at underage levels I understand what a difficult job refereeing is. I tend to find most of the major critics of referees tend to be people who have not and never will put themselves on the line and done the job.

yes there is bad performances from referees but no more than there is bad performances from players or bad decisions from managers. we are all human and in that we will all make mistakes, these mistakes may affect the rest of our performance weather it be a ref, player or manager. its about moving on from these and concentrating on getting our next action/decision correct. we all tell players not to 'have a go' at other players when they make a mistake, the same should apply to the referee. It all boils down to the word respect. Everyone involved in the game needs to give respect and in return get respect. I feel when this is fully adhered to we will find more people willing to do the job and in return the standard of the refereeing will improve.

Just remember it can be a very lonely place in the middle and when being abused and threatened it can become even worse.

Referees do need to be treated with respect but I can understand the frustrations that arise after some dire performances.

I am of the view they should not be above criticism but that clubs have to be proactive in ensuring that it is not abusive.

reflective criticism maybe, not foul verbal abuse, personal attacks and insults.

Our general attitude and conduct towards refeeres is a disgrace .
I can think of few other situations where individuals step out to do a very difficult job and who are openly lambasted for their apparent incompetence. And we know this carries over at times into totally indefensible conduct towards refeeres.
And who do I point the finger at ?
Well I think the spineless officials within many of our clubs who do not take action to root out the perennial offenders. I am not talking about players - that relationships and breach of conduct is well managed through our GAA disciplinary system.
Or is this conduct still part of our cherished heritage - to be maintained, fostered and handed on ?
Time to clean up the act and asked them to stay at home...

yup, totally agree

To counter your argument were a ref has a bad performance maybe we could take a lead from the irish league were they recently stood down a ref for two weeks. This could help them reflect and hopefully they would learn from their mistakes - another option?

Yeh...here we go, blame the ref. We need to support out referee's more not suspend them.

This seems to make a lot of sense (- copied from some guestbook)

It is a disgrace how referees are treated in the GAA, right from the very top (Croke Park) right down to underage players and their parents giving them dogs abuse at a U12 match.
It is a flaw within the GAA and it seems to be the culture that refs are fair game for a bit of bad manners.
My own club is really struggling to get people to ref at the moment and i would imagine that this would be reflective of the wider GAA community but as long as the status quo remains who in their right mind would be a referee.

The sad thing about it is I believe it is very easy to stamp out;

1) Any abuse directed at a referee from a player results in an automatic red card with a 1 month ban.
2) Anyone who attacks a referee or official is banned for life.
3) If a supporter verbally abuses a referee his friends/neighbours/clubmates tell him to wise up that his behaviour is embarrassing and is a bad reflection on the whole club/parish.
4) If a supporter/player attacks an official the GAA should leave no stone unturned in seeking a criminal prosecution.

You do not see this type of behaviour in Rugby from players/supporters because it simply would not be tolerated and it is not that the referees are any better.

Well said. Referee's are treated disgracefully by some people

If two teams finish on same number of points. How do you determine who gets relegated. Is it head to head results or points for/against.
