Attention is being drawn to the fact that at club level we have junior, intermediate and senior success in All Ireland club hurling competitions. There is inference that this should be translated into success at inter county level. That what is required at club level is very different to that what is required at County level. Having everyone behind you at club level; having players that have been together since they were kids etc, etc The differences are obvious to those who can see beyond their own patch. The skill set required to bring people and clubs together is at present scarce in our County but the desire and love for better hurling will endure .

Will teams in the restructured 2016 hurling division 1A & 1B be mandated to play senior championship?

That decision has not been made. With the restructuring of the leagues that is a discussion that needs to happen at County Committee

In moments when we are down we are inclined to pour scorn on those who have and are doing their best.
Sometimes we look back at the good days. But there have been not that many. In 89 and with Loughgiel recently there was a common link a great coach in Jim Nelson. Jim worked with others to make it happen. He was calm, considerate and had the coaching know how. Let us work now to improve coaches in our clubs, development squads and at County. It is the only worthwhile road to travel. Our coaching in every hurling club needs improving.

The result on Saturday is a disappointment but it is reality.
When Loughgiel won Antrim/ Ulster they had to 'up' the training by loads of games etc against Southern opposition. Maybe that part of their programme was more onerous than the preparation to win Antrim.
Our clubs are playing at a level or two below good Southern teams because our coaches are not good enough. That is fact.
What coaches from Antrim would be sought to coach even club teams in Kilkenny , Cork, Waterford . I would think precious few. County managers of Antrim have to invest so much time to bring potential County players up to a standard. Simply because we do not have good enough coaches and what is worse we have coaches who think they are good. We peddle a lot of nonsense about who should or shouldn't be in teams. Our minor teams prepared by our club coaches are 25 points behind anybody that we would like to be beating in important games. Time is long overdue to take reality check and to concentrate on effective coaching as an important step. The lads that are representing Antrim are better club hurlers from their experience under Kevin Ryan.

Good to see the football development squads getting games at home for supporters to go and see our future talent. I know personally that there is good work being done with these players, which is not going unnoticed. This is our future. Goodluck to all involved

Lets hope people get out and support them

Could we have a get together every so often to support coaches. Not courses as such but say sessions where a number of coaches could come along. Maybe this could be led or coordinated by say Dominic Mc Kinley and Mick Glover?
There is a lot of time wasted on wrong emphasis. We are working hard at the wrong things. This would speed up the transfer of "know how".
Good sensible posts 're coaching.

In relation to coaching. I 100% agree that we need to think more of development than results with underage players of developing sustainable and consistent senior teams is your clubs goal. I think the way to go about this is through a child centred approach. Coaches need to leave their egos or personal wants and needs behind the White line and focus totally on the development on the youth players. Stop focusing on only the strong players, remember everyone develops at different stages. Just because a player isn't great at 14 or 16 it doesn't mean he can develop into a competitive senior player with the right guidance.

Re. Coach
Totally agree with everything Coach says. We are in danger of imploding as a result of 'win at all costs' mentality at juvenile level. Focus should solely be on proper coaching and development at underage. Personally would bin all juvenile trophies.

Have to agree with someone there re coaching. Yes there is some excellent coaching being done and some excellent coaches.
Would be great if more of an emphasis was placed on development of players at underage and less on results.
Sometimes a club team at underage will clean up on their way up to minor age and after that they can struggle and give up.
So please more attention to improving standard of all players. And let us try to ensure that stuffing, thrashing other juvenile teams becomes a thing of the past. It benefits no one.

For the attention of Truth. Your attempt at having a post included on this Guestbook never had a chance of being included. If you or anyone else thinks that the inclusion of foul , gutter and abusive language will have any place on this site you are very much mistaken.

I’d like to echo the comments of the coach who left a message praising the video content on the Antrim Coaching and Games youtube page. I feel this channel is a valuable recourse for our coaches as some of the content sharing within the videos is top notch. We hear so much negativity and bickering about those in charge yet the work being done is phenomenal.
