There may have been rain in the air when Lamh Dhearg GAC opened a new state of Art 3G floodlight pitch last week, but club members were undaunted and their enthusiasm on display soon washed away any thoughts of clouds. The project was funded by Sport NI at Hannahstown, and was officially opened by Danny O'Connor Sport NI and Páraic Duffy, Ard Stiúrthóir, GAA.

Also in attendance at the auspicious and successful event was, Minister of Culture Arts and Leisure, Caral Ni Chuilin MLA, Paul Maskey MP , MLA Pat Sheehan MLA, Belfast Lord Mayor Niall O’Donnghaile, Mayor of Lisburn, Brian Heading, Sean O'Hare Sport NI, Antrim County Chairman Jim Murray and County Secretary Frank Quinn.

To celebrate the opening of the new pitch, the club held some special events such as a quality afternoon of cultural entertainment , joint cross Under 8 coaching session with Cooke Rugby club, a special Under 14 challenge game with Orchard Villa FC which incorporated Gaelic in the first half and soccer in the second half and an over 40's Gaelic Tournament won by the host club.

The pictures show the guests and Lamh Dhearg members enjoying the celebrations, on what will go down as a milestone day for the club and indeed for the surrounding area of Hannastown and west Belfast.
