Antrim football keeper is in no doubt about the importance of this Sunday’s match at Casement Park against Wexford. Speaking to the official county website today he stressed,

“To be brutally honest, this is our biggest game of the year. After the results of the last two weeks, it is a must win game to keep our promotion hopes alive. Wexford are currently two points ahead of us so a win takes us level on points and keeps our league season going. It doesn't get much bigger than Sunday.”

Asked about the importance of playing in Casement Chris readily acknowledged the advantages of a home venue. “The fact that it is our home pitch and we don’t have to travel long distances makes a big difference. The home support is important too, the Antrim fans have been great all year and helped us to get home in a tight opening game against Sligo. Hopefully big numbers will turn up on Sunday and they can do the same again.”

The squad was disappointed with the results of the last two weeks, but Kerr saw more positives in the most recent match against Longford.

“Against Roscommon we should have been out of sight after starting with a goal so early. Even late in the second half we still had the chances to get some sort of result and that was the most frustrating aspect of it. Last Sunday we never got going in the first half against Longford but were still in touching distance. In the second half even when we went down to 14 men, we had them pinned in their own half and were unlucky not to get at least a draw. The most important thing is that we have learned from both games, anyway they are behind us now and hope we can put things right on Sunday.”

Chris was asked to reflect personally on the season so far and he was quick to point out the advantages of a fresh approach.

“There is a massive step up in professionalism brought to the set up with Andy, Gearoid and Paul,
training has been first class and everyone is pulling in the same direction. We all want success for the county and we are working to that joint objective. I’m just happy to take my chance when it comes my way and I have benefited from being pushed all the way by Willie McSorley.”
