25 August 2011
In glorious sunshine, the annual Loughgiel U14 Hurling Tournament took place on Saturday 20th August 2011. 8 teams participated this year - Na Seamróga Loch gCaol, the hosts; Ruairi óg Cois Abhann Dalla; Mac Uílín Balie an Chaisleán; Naomh Eoin; Naomh Eanna; and Uí Dhonnabháin Rosa Béal Feirste; Naomh Colm Baile na Scríne agus Cluain Tarbh Baile átha Cliath.
The tournament provides the opportunity for Division 1 teams from Antrim to compete against teams from other counties - this year - Dublin and Derry. As each team plays at least 3 games, the tournament gives all U14 players, regardless of ability, the opportunity to play.
A magnificant final between Ballycastle and St Johns culminated in a Ballycastle win, in the end by just 2 points. Some magnificant saves by the Ballycastle goalie will be remembered for some time to come.
All in all it was a great day for U14 hurling and all the teams had an enjoyable day. Plans are already underway for next year's tournament.
