Colm McKenna, Club Aontroma Chairman has called on all Antrim gaels to support the county minor, U21 and senior hurlers this week.

“Last weekend was one of those occasions where it was a privelege to be an Antrim supporter in Croke Park.

The turnout of Antrim support was lower than hoped for and of course there are reasons for that to do with holidays, family and club committments and the economy is having an impact as well.

However the squads involved, along with the management teams, have put in the effort over a long period and frankly they deseve our support.

“The senior team in particular have already shown a tremendous committment and drive to win. They have put in the hours, the days and months on the training field.

There is no doubt that support from the stands can drive a team on, we saw that in particular in Newbridge and in Casement when the hurlers had their backs to the wall against Carlow.

“As a supporter of the county, as an Antrim gael, you have a role to play this weekend and that means making the effort, buying a ticket and getting to the games.

You really dont want to miss out on another big Antrim occasion.

For two years in a row now our senior inter county teams have taken us right through to the end of July in competitive all Ireland competition.

This is a time to celebrate being an Antrim fan and to encourage our county teams.”
