LÁMH DHEARG WALKS ‘AR SON NA GAEILGE’

On Tuesday night, 9th March, Cumann Lámh Dhearg put its best foot forward in support of the Irish language and to raise awareness of its new programme of cultural activities being rolled out in the club and Hannahstown parish.

Organised by the Cultural Development Committee, over 60 members braved the freezing temperatures to walk the Hannahstown Hill up to the club. At the same time, three other walks were leaving different parts of Belfast to be part of the ‘RITH 2010’ mammoth walk ar son na Gaeilge. This walk will continue down the east coast of Ireland, through Cork, Kerry and will finish in Galway on St. Patrick’s Day. Kilometres can be purchased by clubs and schools and all money raised goes towards Irish language initiatives throughout Ireland.

Lámh Dhearg’s members undoubtedly had one of the more challenging kilometres, as anyone who has walked or run the Hannahstown Hill can testify. Senior hurlers and footballers, male and female, joined the young players and their parents and made their way up a frosty Hannahstown Hill.

This was the first major initiative by the Cultural Development Committee and helped to launch the forthcoming events in the club.

On Saturday 13th March, Irish classes for beginners will commence at 11am in the Hannahstown Parish Centre, and on St. Patrick’s Day, the club has a full programme of activities for everyone both young and old. Further information can be obtained at www.lamhdheargclg.com

Thanks to all who supported this event and we hope to see you at future cultural events in Cumann Lámh Dhearg.

Go raibh maith agaibh uilig agus bígí linn as seo amach.
