St Gall’s booked their place in the semi-final of the Ulster Club Football championship thanks to late points from Kevin Niblock and Kieran McGourty which gave them victory over Pearse Og in the Ulster quarter-finals at Casement Park.
St Galls were far from their best against the new Armagh champions but they still managed to lead by two at half-time thanks to scores from Rory Gallagher, CJ McGourty, Sean Kelly and Karl Stewart.
The visitors battled back to level at 0-8 each with points from Paul Devlin, Declan McManus, Conor Clarke and Ronan Clarke and suddenly St Gall’s looked to be in a spot of bother, and when Og’s Ronan Clarke got through one on one with the St Gall’s goalkeeper Ronan Gallagher the St Gall’s fans must have feared the worst.
However Clarke shot wide of the target and St Gall’s took full advantage as late points from McGourty and substitute Niblock sealed a semi-final place against Monaghan champions Clontibret on Sunday next.
St Teresa’s booked their place in the semi-final of the Ulster Club Junior Championship when they held of a spirited late rally by Butlersbridge of Cavan at Casement Park. St Teresa’s appeared to be home and dry when they opened up a six point lead early in the second half, but they failed to score in the final quarter as the Cavan men fought back to within two.
Ahoghill bowed out of the Ulster Club Intermediate Championship when they were beaten by a single point by Monaghan Harps in Creggan.
The St Mary’s men trailed by four at half-time but fought back brilliantly in the second-half to take a one point lead. However the Monaghan champions regained the lead and edged through by the narrowest of margins against the luckless Antrim chamions.
