2008 has turned into another very successful year for the clubs in the area and the level of competition is a credit to them and also to the CCC who are charged with the responsibility of running the competitions.

As is now the norm, the year started with the senior competitions for the O'Cahan Cup, the McCormick Cup and the Abbey Cup which the clubs use to prepare for the All-County Leagues.

The 2 football finals were played in Dunloy as part of their 100 year celebrations. It turned into a very successful day for the Cargin club as they won both trophies to ensure they remain the king pins of SW football.

The Abbey cup threw up a novel final as Creggan overcame newcomers St. Endas in a very closely contested final.

In the Primary School age group many clubs have again embraced the "Go Games” concept which is being suggested by many coaches as the way forward for our youngest players. A number of clubs are now cooperating to organise blitz competitions which are proving to be very successful.

The juvenile leagues this year produced a number of high class performances at each age group. In the older age groups the traditional clubs again dominated while in the younger ages it was a case of a total change as two new names came to the fore.

In the U12 league competition, the players from St. Endas, who only joined the SW competitions this year, proved to be a very talented bunch as they won the competition beating last years winners from Sean Stinsons in the final. In the shield competition it was Lisburn who came out on top.

The U14 league was dominated by 2 teams throughout with Antrim winning their first title at the expense of Dunloy. In the shield it was again St. Enda's who were victorious against Lisburn. The Feile football award went to Dunloy with Creggan retaining their hurling title for another year.

In the U16 competition Cargin and Creggan served up some very high quality matches before Cargin were crowned champions by a single point. The fact that it took extra time and a replay to separate them indicates how close they were. The drawn game must go down as the match of the year. Glenavy collected the shield when they overcame Glenravel in the final.

The Breslin Cup is resting in Dunloy this year after they overcame neighbours Rasharkin in the final.

At minor level it was again the Cargin/ Creggan story as they dominated all the competitions at that level, not just in the south west but All County as well. Congratulations to Creggan on winning their first minor championship beating Cargin in a very close final. At the time of writing these two are also waiting to contest the league title and the Laverty Cup.

Sean Stinsons also got their name on the roll of honour winning the SW and All County Og Sport titles.
