...to Neil McManus from Ruairi Og Cushendall, who won the Hurling Achievement Award at the recent Irish News Ulster GAA All Stars event. The award was in recognition of his excellent performances for club and county.....
History was made a few weeks ago when both Minor Club Finals were held under the magnificent Casement Park floodlights before a large crowd.
Rossa defeated Sarsfield’s in the Football decider by 3-5 to 2-5 after leading by 1-2 to 0-3 at half time. Sarsfield’s looked to be heading for victory in the second half when they opened up a 5 point gap, however Rossa took control in the final 10 minutes to win by a goal and collect their first minor football title for almost 4 decades.
A brilliant hurling final ended in a draw when Loughgiel Shamrocks scored an equalising goal in the last seconds of injury time. Ruairi Og Cushendall looked to be heading for their 3rd title in a row but were denied with that late goal. In the replay in Ballycastle, Loughgiel won by 2 points 2-8 to 2-6.
WHY NOT COME ALONG to Casement Park on Sunday 7th October and watch the County Football and Hurling Finals.
Casements Portglenone, in their second Senior Final, face St. Gall’s in a repeat of the 2005 decider, in what should be a cracking final.
The hurling decider will be between the winners of Ballycastle v Loughgiel and Cushendall v Dunloy.
Ballycastle 4-13 v 1-6 Dunloy
Three goals in the second half for Ballycastle made sure of a first victory for the McQuillan’s, after turning round at the interval only 2 points in front. Team captain and Antrim senior Neal McAuley gave an inspirational display at midfield for the winners.
