Former Antrim GAA star Anto Finnegan has revealed that he has been diagnosed with the neurological condition motor neurone disease.


The ex-footballer received the diagnosis last year and has now made the decision to go public in the hope of raising awareness of the condition.

To help raise awareness, St Pauls GAC will host the over 35’s Sevens tournament on Saturday 23rd November in association with deterMND.

24 teams from Antrim, Armagh, Derry and Tyrone will complete from 11am at St Pauls, Rossa and Sarsfields to help raise awareness and funds to go towards research in this particular area.

Former county stars such as Joe Quinn, Geroid Adams, Kevin Madden, Sean McGreevy, Joe Brolly, Paddy Bradley, John Rafferty will be taking part on the day to support Anto Finnegan and the cause.

Following the tournament, there will be refreshments and a buffet in the St Pauls GAC clubrooms followed by entertainment from 3pm

Session musicians (4pm-6pm):
• Laura Kerr – fiddle player from Lurgan,Co.Armagh, former member of ‘Captain Kennedy’
• Ruadhrai O’Kane – fiddle player from Dungiven, Co.Derry former member of ‘Óige’
• Liam MacGabhann (Smith) – fluteplayer from Short Strand, Co. Antrim
In the evening Bernadette Morris will take to the stage to entertain the crowd from 8.00 pm. Bernadette's recently released album, ‘All the Ways You Wander’ has received rave reviews across Ireland and beyond and earned her a guest spot with the infamous John Spillane earlier this year.

Bernadette will be accompanied by renowned local Belfast musician Rohan Young and all Ireland champion musicians Niall McCrickard from Co. Down and Ciaran Hanna from Co. Tyrone. You can follow Bernadette at her website -www.bernadettemorris.com
Entry to Bernadette's gig is minimum donation of £5.00 at the door.
The night will finish with music from resident DJ 'Big Pat'
