On a very wet and windy Saturday night in Casement Park O Donovan Rossa defeated a gallant Cushendall team to win the Antrim hurling Feile na nGael and now will go on to represent the county in Limerick from 5-7 July. This young team had won the Feile Peile na nOg the week before with virtually the same team and again they will be the county representatives in Derry from 28-30 June.
Saturdays night match was a great example of good hard hurling and with Rossa playing with a strong breeze in the first half they went into the break 1.6 to 0.4 lead the goal coming from Tiarnan Murphy after sublime work from Connell Devine & Jack Silcock. It was all to play for in the second half however the Rossa mentors moved Michael McGreevy into midfield and with his power and speed he dominated this area for the next 20 minutes.
Cushendall will count themselves unlucky as they hit the post and bar in the second half but with Ryan O'Neill at full back having the game of his life Rossa ran out winners 1.11 - 0.7. Credit most go to both sets of players who under terrible conditions produced a great night of hurling.
This is the 5th time Rossa have done the Feile double 94,95,96,09 & now 13 lets hope than these young boys can go on and bring a couple of All Irelands back to West Belfast.
