I am delighted that the league is finally on us, this opening match is what we as a management team and a squad have been looking forward to since we started working together toward the end of last year. We had a satisfactory McKenna Cup campaign, and I took particular encouragement from the game against Derry when we fought out a draw in difficult conditions.
It is important that we get off to a strong start in the league. Division 3 will be very competitive and you only need to look at the teams involved to know there will be no such thing as an easy game. The balance of home V away games is in our favour with 4 at home. However that will only be an advantage if we win those home games, beginning this weekend.
I am aware that we have had victories over Cavan in recent years but those are history now. They have a new squad, new management and they will arrive in Casement thinking they can win this game. I expect it to be very tight and very competitive.
We have prepared well, our squad has worked extremely hard and I hope we get the support the team deserves on Sunday. I hope this is the beginning of a fruitful Division 3 campaign and a year which we can all look back on fondly.
Aontroim abu!
