Antrim minor hurling manager Sambo McNaughton says he was not surprised at Down’s solid performance in last Sunday’s drawn Ulster final.
“We know that Down have really focussed on their minor team this year and they have put in a big effort. Down had already beaten Antrim in the final of the Ulster league so we knew in advance that the Ulster final on Sunday was going to be a big test.
“I wasn’t happy with our own performance and I know there are a number of the fellas themselves who know they can do better. I am definitely looking for a big improvement this Saturday. The game is there for the taking, and I know both sides will be thinking that.
“To be fair to both teams they are skilful, good players and the rain took some of that out of their game. The conditions were poor and I think that had an affect on the game. Hopefully the replay will be dry.
“With the replay on Saturday before the football qualifier, I hope we get a good crowd coming early to support our young hurlers.”
