Oldest and youngest One Antrim members join forces for the Saffrons

Press release 30th April 2012

Former Antrim camogie legend Lily Spence, who won All-Ireland honours for the County in the 1940s, before becoming President of the Camogie Association in the 1950s, and who is currently the oldest member of One Antrim at 87, joined youngest One Antrim member 16 month old Síofra Flynn for a puck-about to celebrate the unprecedented membership drive by the county.

Lily, who is current Vice-President of the Ulster Camogie Association was also joined by Club Aontroma Committee Member Margaret Flynn who played Senior Camogie for the County in the 1960s and 1970s. Margaret, who is grandmother of the young Síofra, is one of the many volunteers supporting the One Antrim membership drive. Síofra took some lessons in the Camogie legend's back garden on Belfast's Falls Road. She is pictured with Lily and Margaret.

Colm McKenna, Chair of Club Aontroma said: "With over one hundred members in little over one week I am delighted to see Saffrons of all generations joining One Antrim. Both Lily Spence, a proud and dedicated Saffron, and young Síofra, will see their names appearing on Saffron jerseys this championship season. Lily, who won honours in Croke Park, many decades ago, will hopefully see her name on the jerseys of our panel playing and winning Championship games in Casement Park and Croke Park this year.

"It is inspiring to see Saffrons of all generations coming together to support One Antrim. I am issuing a call to each and everyone one of our supporters across the county and beyond to join up and support your County. By joining One Antrim not only will you see your name on a Saffron jersey, you'll also receive a unique miniature jersey, limited edition pin and be entered in to a quarterly draw for top prizes.

"I urge all of us, young and old, to join Saffrons like Lily and Síofra and help build on our county's success and sign up on www.oneantrim.com " he added.
