Loughgiel retained their GAA Kit.com North Antrim Under 12 Indoor Hurling title when they came from behind to Down side Ballygalget 3-2 in Saturday’s final in the Seven Towers Leisure Centre, Ballymena. Conal McHenry and team captain John Francis Connolly were the heroes for the young Shamrocks, Connolly pulling off a string of excellent saves while McHenry scored all his team’s three goals.
Ballygalget twice held the lead with goals from Tiearnan Ellison and Caoilin Coulter but on each occasion McHenry found and equaliser, and just when the game appeared to be heading for extra time McHenry struck goal number three to seal the win.
Although it is called the North Antrim indoor league this competition has proved so popular that it has developed into an Ulster league and that was reflected in the number of teams from other counties among the winners.
In the end it turned out to be an even split with Antrim teams taking three and the other Ulster sides taking the other three. Section 2 went to Eogan Ruadh Dungannon who beat Glenshesk by 1 goal to 0 in a fiercely contested game while Bredagh from County Down beat All Saints Ballymena in the section 3 decider.
Sarsfields of Belfast won Section 4 with a 3-2 win over Bredagh B, Eoghan Rua of Coleraine came out on top in the Section 5 final when they beat their Dungannon namesakes Eoghan Ruadh A, while in Section 6 Ballycastle beat Burt of Donegal by 4 goals to 2.
