Rossa & Aodh Ruadh Stalemate

Rossa (Antrim) 4.14 - 4.14 Aodh Ruadh (Donegal)
Paul McGirr U16 Ulster Championship semi final

On a glorious winter afternoon Rossa and Aodh Ruadh gave their supporters and mentors a roller coaster of an hour and twenty minuets of great football evoking all sorts of emotions.

Rossa started off brighly and by half time were seven points up and then quickly increased their lead to nine. It looked like it was all over but Aodh Ruadh hadn't read that part of the script as they came storming back and with two minutes to play they were still two points behind.

Rossa were now on the back foot and had been reduced to 14 men after Gerard Walsh was shown two yellow cards, but with the gap now just one and with virtually the last kick of the game Aodh Ruadh drew level and forced the game into extra time sending their supporters into a frenzy.

Extra time followed the same pattern as first Rossa went into the lead courtesy of a Gareth George penalty and then Aodh Ruadh
came storming back yet again to go into a two point the lead.

When Rossa smashed a great effort against the crossbar and had a shot from Chris Boyle cleared off the line, it seemed it wouldn’t be their day. However this team has shown in the past that they never know when they are beat and showed great character by scoring the last two points of the game to sent it to a reply.

Overall a draw was a fair result and lets hope the reply is half as good and we will all get value for our money. The reply is on Sunday 20th November at 1pm Dromore.
