Tributes paid to Dinny Cahill

Antrim County Chairman Jim Murray has confirmed that Jerry Wallace has been appointed to the position of senior hurling team manager for the coming season. Three nominations were received from clubs and following the withdrawal of John Crossey from the selection process current manager Dinny Cahill and Cork native Jerry Wallace were interviewed for the role. The county committee has ratified the appointment of Wallace at tonight’s meeting.

Jim Murray paid tribute to outgoing manager Dinny Cahill.

“Dinny’s commitment to Antrim hurlers over two terms has been tremendous. On both occasions when he came onboard he gave the hurling scene a lift and over the last two years Antrim have made undoubted progress. The highlights were the famous win over Dublin last year along with the quarter final performance against Cork. This year saw the first Leinster Championship win over Laois and further wins over Westmeath and Carlow."

There was warm praise for Dinny from delegates from right across the county.

"We are very grateful to Dinny and his team for their efforts. He helped lift Antrim to a new standard and I am sure he will be a friend to Antrim hurling for years to come."

“We are moving forward now with Jerry Wallace who knows the Antrim hurling scene through his earlier involvement with the squad. I believe that there is huge potential for Antrim hurling and we are working now towards maximising that potential. I see Jerry as having a big role to play. We are now looking forward to the 2012 season.”

Jerry Wallace has been given a 2 year term with an option to extend that for a further year.
