Antrim Chairman Jim Murray has passed on condolences to the family of Derry referee Martin Mulholland, who died yesterday while overseeing a championship game.

Jim said, “Martin was a well known and very popular figure not only in Derry but throughout Ulster and in particularly in hurling circles. He was certainly no stranger at Casement Park and he was a friend to many, many Antrim gaels. Martin was liked and respected in equal measure, a very popular man. It is a tragedy that he has died at the young age of 59 and he is very much in the thoughts of the Antrim GAA family as we go about our business this weekend.

“On behalf of the Antrim board I offer condolences to his wife and children, to his club Slaughtneil and to our friends in Derry. May Martin rest in peace.”
