Three first-half goals were the vital scores as Glenariffe beat Ballycastle in the opening round of the Senior Feis Cup to book a semi-final spot against Dunloy.
Two goals from Alex McDonnell and one from Ronnie McDonnell inside the opening seventeen minutes were the scores which sealed it for the Oisins in Thursday night’s game in Cushendall. Alex grabbed his first when he fired in a rebound after Ballycastle goalkeeper Aiden McAlinden had made a good save and five minutes later he took advantage of some slopping defending to grab number two. Just two minutes later Ronnie grabbed his team’s third when he sent a bullet like drive into the top corner of the Castle net.
Leading by 3-5 to 0-5 at half-time the Oisins were able to keep an understrength McQuillan’s side at arms-length during the second-half. Fergal McConnon did manage to grab a late consolation goal for the ‘Town’ but by that stage Glenariffe were ‘home and hosed’ and already looking forward to a semi-final meeting with holders Dunloy.
