As you may already know, the first Club Aontroma Race Night at Drumbo took place last Friday 22nd October and was a great success, both as a fundraiser and as an event.
As Chairman, I want to put on record the extreme gratitude felt by the entire Club Aontroma Committee for the fantastic support we received from everyone involved. Many businesses, families, individuals and one club supported the event in a number of different ways. Collectively, they will have generated a figure well in excess of £10,000, all of which will go towards the Dunsilly project.
I also want to say a very special thank you to our County stars from the worlds of Camogie, Football, Hurling and Refereeing who took part in our Human Race on what was a very wet night. Ashling Jackson, Mairead Graham, Gregory Walsh, James Loughrey, Kevin O’Boyle and our winner Brian McFall provided our guests with something that little bit different and helped to raise a very tidy sum while doing so.
We have much work to do in Antrim to develop the facilities we need to succeed on the field of play and to provide the support to communities to allow them to grow and prosper. We in Club Aontroma are determined to make this happen but we can only succeed with the continued support of organisations and people and like you, who want to see the same growth, success and development of our communities, of our people, young and not so young. We aim to create a range of activities going forward which will allow everyone to play their part in putting Gaelic games in Antrim where I believe they belong – right at the top.
Over the coming weeks and months we will continue to communicate with you to keep you informed about what is happening and exactly how the fundraising to which you have contributed is being spent. Together, we have taken our first steps on a vitally important journey to secure a brighter future for Antrim GAA. We hope you will stay with us for the journey and that many more will come on board.
