Antrim’s All Ireland campaign was ended at Casement Park on Saturday evening when they were well beaten by an excellent Kildare side in the All Ireland Football qualifier first round replay.
Antrim did well to contain Kildare in the opening half and were just two points adrift at half-time (1-4 to 0-5), the visitors goal coming from team captain Johnny Doyle.
Top scorer Paddy Cunningham cut the gap to a single point early in the second-half, but Kildare began to get on top and seven unanswered points put them in complete control. Antrim produced a bit of a revival with points from Cunningham and Brendan Herron, but Kildare pushed home their advantage with some wonderfully worked scores to book a second round place against Leitrim next weekend.
