Antrim’s Cailín Gaelach to Sing at Casement Park

Ahead of what promises to be one of the biggest weekends for Antrim GAA in years, the Antrim Board has announced that the County’s most recent All-Ireland winner, Gráinne Holland, will sing the National Anthem before the football match against Kildare.
Gráinne is a member of Laochra Loch Lao CLG, the club set up to serve members within Belfast’s thriving Gaeltacht community. At the recent Comórtas Péile na Gaeltachta in Co Mayo, Gráinne won the highly prized title of, “An Cailín Gaelach.” In carrying out the duties of this office, Gráinne becomes the representative of all the Gaeltacht areas throughout the country at official engagements and functions.
Jake Mac Siacais, Chairman of Laochra Loch Lao, said, “We are all extremely proud of Gráinne and of her success. Let’s remember, this is the second year in a row that this title has gone to an Antrim girl which reflects the contribution made by this County to the cultural life of our Association.”
County Vice-Chairman, Jim Murray, endorsed Mac Siacais’s comments by adding, “For anybody to win a National award is a tremendous achievement and the fact that for the second year that an Antrim girl is, “An Cailín Gaelach,” is a source of great pride for all Antrim Gaels. I’m sure that when Gráinne is introduced to our home supporters on Saturday night that she will receive a massive céad míle fáilte befitting one of our own who is an All-Ireland winner.”
