It was disappointment for a brave St. Louis side in Saturday’s All Ireland College’s ‘B’ Final where they suffered a heavy defeat to an excellent St.Flannans of Ennis.
A slow start in the All Ireland U16 final on Saturday cost the St Louis Camogs dear. St Flannan’s Ennis, having won the toss, elected to play with the strong breeze and dominated the first 15 min of the game scoring a goal in the first 5 min and slotting over 5 beautifully taken points. St Louis then settled into the game and a fine Cara McIntyre goal settled some nerves. St Flannan’s soon cancelled out this score with 3 more points from play. The Ballymena girls battled bravely before Lucia McNaughton added a great point. St Flannan’s regrouped and in injury time in the first half added another goal and 2 points to lead by 12 points at the interval.

The breeze in the second half helped the Kintullagh Camogs and they started to show the form that won them the semi-final. Solid defending kept the Ennis girls from raising the green flag again and held them to some excellent long range points. Exceptional play from the St Louis midfield and half forwards meant that they dominated at this stage. A superb ball from Rioghnach Mc Naughton allowed Portglenone forward Emma McAleese to find the net and she added another point before St Flannan’s again put the ball between the posts. Niamh Doherty, took a fantastic point to add to the Ballymena tally. St Flannan’s consistent play throughout the game, however proved too strong for the Ballymena side and despite determination and some brilliant performances, they were unable to pull off the recovery that was needed.
