Antrim senior footballers took their rightful place at the top table of Ulster football last night at the gala Irish News Ulster All Star awards, with five of the team picking up much coveted and well deserved awards. The Saffrons shared top billing with Tyrone, with the two Ulster finalists taking ten awards between them, the recognised Antrim quintet being Michael McCann, James Loughrey, Thomas McCann, Colin Brady and team captain Paddy Cunningham.
The loudest cheers of the night from the large crowd was reserved for the Antrim boys and in interviews with compere Benny Tierney each stressed their desire to press on next year to further success. Before last night Antrim had ratcheted up a total of 3 Ulster All Stars in 14 years. Make that 8 in 15 now – and many more to come.
