Cushendun qualified for the final of the Junior Hurling Championship when they saw off the challenge of Creggan in Sunday’s semi-final in Armoy.
The little bit of class showed by former county players Paul Graham and Aiden Mort was the main difference between the sides in the end as a gallant Creggan side faded after a promising start.
A point from midfielder Sam Maguire followed soon afterwards by a goal from full-forward Aiden McKeown gave the underdogs an early boost and with Cushendun finding it hard to hit the target at the other end a major upset seemed possible.
However as soon as Cushendun’s Dominic McQuillan pointed in the sixth minute the Emmets began to settle down, and with McQuillan, Paul Graham and Aiden Mort to the fore they began to pick off the scores.
Creggan added few more points, one real beauty from inside his own half by Paul McCann, but Cushenun kept the scoreboard ticking over and by the break they had edged three in front. (0-11 to 1-5)
With wind advantage in the second-half Cushendun were always in control and the scores began to flow. Graham and Mort added a few more classy scores before Graham and James Magee put the icing on the victory with two late goal to seal a final place against Rasharkin.
Rasharkin had a convincing win in their semi-final with Davitts at Casement Park, winning by 2-15 to 1-1 as their impressive season continues.
