Club Aontroma, the fundraising body established to provide support for the development of Gaelic Games in Antrim, handed over £10,000 to the Antrim County Board in advance of the Ulster Final this weekend. A further £2,000 was specifically donated to the development of camogie in the county.
Club Aontroma has organised a fundraising dinner which will take place in Belfast tomorrow (Friday) night. The event was organised and sold out in a two week period, following the semi final win over Cavan in the Ulster SFC. Guests at the dinner will include former county footballer Kevin Madden, Jarlath Burns, current camogie star Jane Adams and Champion jockey and Antrim supporter Tony McCoy. Representatives of the county teams of 1946 and1951 which last won the Ulster Championship and Tony Mc Atamney the captain of the 1970 team, which last reached the final, will also be there.
Chairman Eamonn Prenter said they were very pleased with the response of the business community of the county.
"Having successful teams, at all age levels and throughout all codes, requires investment. That means volunteer hours, time committment from hundreds of people and of course money, and that is where we can play a role.
"This event has been booked, organised and sold out within a period of less than two weeks. That shows the support there is out there for our county teams at present even during the traditional holiday period. Hopefully Friday's dinner will kick off a weekend of celebration in Antrim."
