Two late goals from full-forward Paddy Richmond saw Dunloy beat old rivals Loughgiel in the senior hurling final at Feis na nGleann in Feystown, Glenarm on Sunday evening.
After being level at half-time holders Loughgiel appeared to be on their way to victory when they opened a six point lead during the second-half.
However Dunloy hit back with a Paddy Richmond goal after Shamrocks keeper DD Quinn had made an outstanding save from Sean Dowd’s original shot, to take a one point lead with time almost up.
Barney McAuley leveled matters for Loughgiel and extra time seemed certain until Richmond struck again in injury time, this time catching a sideline ‘cut’ which was driven in across the square before firing it to the Loughgiel net.
Loughgiel won both the Senior and Junior Camogie titles with convincing wins over Ballycastle with Shamrock captain Emma McMullan picking up the player of the match award in the Senior final.
All Saints Ballymena beat St Mary’s Rasharkin in the Senior Football final while Ballycastle beat Dunloy in the junior football decider.
In the Minor Sevens Hurling final Cushendall beat Ballycastle while in the ‘Clareway’ competitions Loughgiel beat Cushendall in the Division 1 final, Glenariffe beat Loughgiel B in Division 2 while Glenshesk beat Tir na nOg in the Division 3 decider.
Ballycastle retained their McMullan Cup title (U16 A hurling) when they beat Loughgiel in the final with Ciaran Clarke the star man in the second-half, while what was a memorable weekend for host club Glenarm became even more special when they beat Glenshesk in the Under 16 B final.
In the Under 16 Camogie final Dunloy caused an upset when they beat Loughgiel, a team they had lost to by 18 point just one week earlier.
Overall a great weekend’s activity and Glenarm deserve the highest of praise for their excellent hosting of the event.
