Some of the future stars of Gaelic Games in Belfast and Dublin took to the field at Casement Park on Friday 5th June, for a series of games sponsored by Club Aontroma. This programme of games goes back to the 1930s and has featured many children who have gone on to represent their respective counties with distinction.
There were a sequence of competitive games with Dublin finishing on top in camogie, hurling and girls’ football, with Belfast winning in boys’ football and handball.
The children were graced by the presence of the newly elected Lady Mayoress of Belfast, Naomi Long, who presented medals and threw the slíothar in to begin the hurling.
The pupils in this Cumann na mBunscol inner-city challenge displayed an excellent array of skills and hopefully many will go on to represent their counties in the future.
