On the 2nd of May Queen's University Hurling Club will host their Awards Dinner Dance for the 2008/2009 season. Whilst they have had a relatively successful year reaching the semifinals of the Ryan Cup this years dinner will consist of more than just a players night award.

The dinner, hosted by the Wellington Park hotel, will be in honour of former Downpatrick and current Castlewellan clubman Dick Looby. The University is launching the QUB Hurling Hall of Fame in recognition of those players, managers and contributors who have helped promote and progress hurling in the University.

A panel of past members considered many players and managers past and present. Dick has beaten off stiff opposition from the likes of Antrim All-star Ciaran Barr, Derry's All star Nominee Michael Collins, current Down Manager Jim McKernan and All Ireland Medal winner Joe Consadine of Clare to become the 1st person to be inducted into the QUB Hurling Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of hurling at
Queens over a 25 year era.

The evening will be attended by many of the players who Dick has coached at his time at Queens. Fergus Cooper of the Queens past members association said that Dick Louby has been a stalwart of university hurling in Ulster.
If it wasn't for his time and effort Queen's would not be in the healthy state it is in today.

The evening will commence with a cocktails reception at 7.30pm followed at 8.00pm by a 4 course dinner. Tickets cost £50 per head and proceeds will go towards the development of the current Queens hurling teams. All past Queen's hurlers and those who wish to pay tribute to Dick are welcome to attend.
