Club Aontroma is in the final stages of the preparation of a new exciting fundraising initiative which will build on the momentum of the successful Saffron Sweep, and unlock funds for every unit of the association in Antrim. Chairman Eamon Prenter explains that the details of the new project are being outlined to the different units within the county, prior to an official launch next month.
“Prior to 2006 there was no real culture or history or fundraising in Antrim – thanks to the efforts of the rank and file members, clubs, the County Board and Club Aontroma, that changed over the course of the Race Days and the Saffron Sweeps in each of the last two years. There are concrete signs of progress within the county – both and off the field of play and we want to help channel the support which exists among Antrim Gaels and beyond in way which will ensure that Antrim keeps on moving forward.
Last year Club Aontroma presented the County Board with £50,000 towards the development of the Antrim Centre of Excellence. The Dunsilly project is now days away from receiving planning permission and the progress to date is thanks to the efforts of everybody who supported the Saffron Sweep and the previous fundraising efforts. Those people, and their clubmates, families and colleagues, will very shortly receive details of our next fundraising venture – which really is a “win – win – win” situation for the GAA in Antrim and its membership.”
