These new rules about transfer at under age are a load of nonsence, a child should be allowed to move when they want. Its not up to us to make decisions for them! Bad call

Yeah and you can join the minority of 2 clubs who opposed this motion. This is about protecting the interests of "smaller" clubs who make the effort to develop kids, only to find that "bigger" clubs end up poaching these kids. Clearly you like the idea of "win at all costs". Guess what, most people prefer participation in and promotion of, the aims and ethos of our Association. Sin e!

The Antrim 'Table Quiz'will be held in Casement Park Social Club on Friday 16th January starting at 8pm.
Club secretaries have been asked to forward their entry to the County Secetary on or before Tuesday 13th January.
Each club can enter one team with four members. All the questions will be in Irish and the answers are to be recorded in Irish. All the members of the team need not speak Irish. So long as one member has a command of the Irish language the team can compete.
This is an opportunity to represent your club and advance into an Ulster competition. Three teams from the county will advance to Ulster.

Hi Hitler, or whatever you wish to be known as. For your benefit, we need a revolution in regard to Antrim Gaelic football. My focus is unapologetically upon enthusing, encouraging and where opportunity presents, to be 'hands on' in support of those prepared to make the inordinate effort to achieve, as opposed to sniping. You and you ilk appear to live only to criticise and feast upon finding fault. Nothing ever worthwhile was achieved without energy and enthusiasm. No criticism of anyone was either voiced or implied. Antrim has an army of detractors where we need otherwise an army of supporters. Maybe you should consider signing up in support of those making the effort or else perhaps just shutting up. Never thought i would say this, but i agree with Hitler.

Its only been one week of training sessions. Isnt it a little early to be singing the praises of the management? This is the stuff ego's are made of.

Dont get me wrong, the county team, board and management have my full support, I just think its odd to write such an article after one whole week.

???? One training session and our PRO speaks as if a revolution has taken place within the county! Not doubting our new managers credentials or leadership skills but it seems a bit premature to be speaking like this and appears to 'knock' previous managers discipline and relationships with players. I think both Sambo and Jodys approach to ???? and ???? showed zero tolerance within the camp. Its pretty evident that when a new manager takes over everyone wants to play for him whether its club or county in their first year this would be 'historically' accurate in terms of antrim GAA. It is also not the first time Antrim footballers have held trials as Jody Gormley did and also PJ O Hare when they took charge. Here's hoping we can judge our footballers and management on results and not the first TRAINING of the season. Saffron abu

Obviously you have interpreted this piece through your own negative thinking which is in contrast to that of the authors. That's what wrong with this county. Far too many critics and not enought prepared to put their shoulder to the wheel. If the PRO wants to put a "positive spin" on things, then why not? Cleary he will be lambasted and criticised by anonymous negativists like you and he obviously knew that would happen. However, you are completely wrong to suggest that in this the PRO is suggesting that Antrim is going to be a "tour-de-force" this year. Rather, the PRO is trumpeting the positive things such as trials and the enthusiasm currently evident. Far too often we get anonymous reports such as "I hear this happened at training..." or "a player told me that...". This is the antidote to these lies and gossip and that is all that should be taken from this "piece of journalism". Maybe you ought to try to accentuate the positive things for a change, rather than eagerly jumping on the over-loaded bus of critics.

Just a few points:
TRANSFERS
"The one thing that is certain though, is that no player will be "prevented" from participating and in the highly unlikely scenario of a player not getting any games for the reason you describe, then of course this situation will be looked at."
I think Admin has addressed this issue well here. If anyone had a legitimate reason for transferrin then I am sure the authorities will address it! Sin e!

PRE-SEASON
I see many of our clubs have begun pre-season training and we eagerly await fixture lists! It occurred to me that we are back training some 8 months prior to championship - why? Beacause we love our games! In truth we want to go back to training because we all get more out of playing our games that we put in! Otherwise we would not do it! Just think of this the next time we are too quick to criticise those who make it possible (Admins & Refs included). Perhaps the Cork Hurlers might think of this also!

Good luck to all clubs this year!

I am 25 when I started playing hurling 20 years ago when I started Hurling was all about playing for you family your friend and your club. Now people are transfering between clubs looking for a bit of success. The new by-law is a great idea to help prevent our sport going down the lines of soccer

Maybe the time has come for smaller clubs to amalgamate at senior level hurling,it seems to have worked in the South in some cases. However I can't see it ever happening here.

In North Antrim there are only three (possibly 4?) strong hurling clubs at juvenile level who can compete against one another. This is not sufficient to make a viable competitive league. These clubs have a fair percentage drop out with the emphasis on coaching/ games etc aimed at the better prospects. Others are excluded and only get token game time. The situation in small clubs is different and they could and presumably hurling could benefit from a more flexible system of encouraging some of the players surplus to requirements in stronger clubs to team up with the weaker / smaller clubs. It is not primarily about transfers but about reality of declining numbers/ lack of opportunity in some of our rural areas.
Country man

There hasn't been one request for a transfer from any kid from a "bigger" club to go to a smaller one in the North Antrim area. However, you are right about the threat facing rural clubs, i.e. depopulation. That is a serious problem and one that does also need to be addressed by all clubs. A unified voice on this matter to the planning authorities for example, is just one possible measure that might help to address this.

i never signed any forms or registered

Doesn't matter a toss. If you played, you played. Now forget about it. You cannot transfer to another club because "your mates" are playing for another club. Sine!

Hi Admin

I think you should be aware there is sometimes legitimate and very valid reasons whilst a member of a club may feel it is appropriate to wish to leave one club for another. In many cases, it could be purely a case of logistics, i.e. such as location or employment. There maybe on m,any other occasions where a memeber of a club deems it neccessary to terminate hi/her association with one club and seek to join another due to some of the following reasons:

Internal Fueding, Points of principle,
Deceit, Being Isolated/ostracised, Family fueds, Political Reasons, Parochaliaism to name but a few.

The above are genuine and valid reasons why someone may wish to transfer to other clubs. By doing so, it does not make them any less a Gael or Antrim supporter.

Like some of the other posters, children who are overlooked and are maybe not competitive enough for places in the successful/dominat clubs/parishes, I really do not believe they should be excluded. Is it not more important that persons, young and old alike are not kept out in the cold and whereby they may still contribute to the games and the association as a whole.

Is it not more important to include as to exclude?

This is not intended as a slight on the staunch defence you make regarding transfers, but rather an insight into real reasons why people find the need/neccessity to move on.

Maybe you should read our last reply to the previous contributor on this again? This rule is designed to prevent the wholesale madness of juveniles transferring (or being poached) from "small" clubs to "bigger" clubs. It has nothing to do with exclusion as we stated and has everything to do with inclusion -- as we stated. Sine!

If a young person or group of young ones belong to say 'a strong' hurling club where there are big numbers competing to get a game and he/they don't make the team or panel - are they expected to stay with that club? If they moved to a smaller club where there is less competition then they could still be part of a panel or maybe get on a team? This is a reality in various situations- we can recall when certain clubs were able and did 'field' with another team of subs on the bench. In rugby/soccer clubs there is often a range of teams competing to cater for the spread of capability and there is freedom to move/transfer. Interested in your views..

This is such twisted and hypothetical nonsense and simply does not or rarely occurs. The problem is that the far too many young players are leaving some of the "so-called" smaller clubs to go to "bigger" clubs - and they in fact, end up sitting on the bench. The one thing that is certain though, is that no player will be "prevented" from participating and in the highly unlikely scenario of a player not getting any games for the reason you describe, then of course this situation will be looked at.

I have no routes in the club i played for last year? and was hoping to play at a new club were my friends attend meaning i can get lifts and my mums side of the family! Is there no chance i can change clubs?

Roots presumably? No, you can't move. If you are registered with a club already, then that's your club. Anyway, what were you doing for the past year in "your" club? Falling out with everybody?
